A dramatic rescue operation in Kensington, led by Metropolitan Police officers, saved residents from a severe fire, with body-worn camera footage capturing the intense moments as officers broke down doors to evacuate individuals from six flats on Emperor’s Gate, SW7, early on Friday, 1 March.
“The bravery and professionalism of the Met officers… shows the very best of policing. They acted without hesitation… to save lives. Our subsequent investigation will be equally tenacious, and we now have a man in custody.”
The incident, which began around 00:15hrs on 1 March, saw a collaborative effort with the London Fire Brigade and London Ambulance Service. The fire is currently being treated as suspicious, and by Sunday, 3 March, a 25-year-old man was detained on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life and remains in custody.
During the rescue, seven police officers and six residents were affected by smoke inhalation, all of whom were hospitalized but have since been discharged without severe injuries.
