The GMB Union, representing Asda workers, has announced the suspension of a planned strike at the Asda Gosport Superstore. The strike, initially scheduled to run from 00:01 on Friday to 23:59 on Sunday, has been put on hold following recent discussions.

On the 18th of January 2024, GMB Union representatives and Asda management engaged in talks facilitated by Acas, the independent conciliation service. These discussions aimed to address the issues at the heart of the planned industrial action.

“Following discussions held under the auspices of Acas, on 18 January 2024, it has been agreed that industrial action is temporarily suspended to allow a ballot of GMB members on the proposals put forward by Asda.”

The suspension of the strike indicates a progressive step towards resolving the dispute. It provides an opportunity for GMB members to consider and vote on the proposals made by Asda, with the hope of reaching a mutually satisfactory agreement.

This development reflects the ongoing commitment of both parties to engage constructively in dialogue and work towards solutions that address the concerns of Asda’s workforce, while maintaining the operational effectiveness of the Gosport Superstore.
