Sergeant Paul Gosling and Special Sergeant Amanda Taylor were involved in the chase after an Audi TT failed to stop on Northern Approach Road around 1:50 AM. Despite numerous red lights being ignored and speeds reaching up to 70mph in 30mph and 40mph zones, the officers maintained a safe distance, providing continuous updates to the control room.

The pursuit culminated when the suspect’s vehicle ventured off-road onto farmland and became incapacitated in the mud, allowing the officers to make their approach and apprehend the driver. During the arrest, a knife was also recovered from the scene.

“This is the kind of work my officers are engaged in every day – patrolling our county’s roads to make arrests and keep the public safe. This often results in the removal of knives and other weapons from the streets of Essex. These officers are professionals who undergo extensive training in response driving. They patrol all the county’s roads, whether they are the strategic road networks or the lesser used, more rural roads, no matter the location or the speed limit. It’s our job to ensure that each road is safe to be used and they’re not used by those offenders who think that they can move about Essex undetected, because they can’t.”

— Adam Pipe, Head of Essex Police Roads Policing Unit

A man in his 30s from Walton was detained and remains in custody for questioning on charges including dangerous driving, failing to stop, drug driving, and possession of a knife in a public place.

The incident showcases the continuous effort by Essex Police to ensure public safety and uphold law and order on the roads, even under challenging conditions.
