car stuck in flooded road, with rescue team approaching with inflatable raft

Essex Fire and Rescue Service has issued a warning to motorists about the dangers of driving through flooded roads following a rescue operation in Bulford Lane, Black Notley. Firefighters were dispatched to the scene at 05:48am today, where they found a vehicle trapped in floodwater with a woman inside.

Utilising their specialist water rescue training, the firefighters successfully extricated the woman from her precarious position and ensured her safety.

“Please do not risk driving through floodwater. It really isn’t worth the risk to your life or your vehicle. The water is often deeper than you think and it really doesn’t take much water for your car to be severely damaged or in some cases for your car to float out of control, putting your life at risk. If you come across a flooded road, please don’t take any chances, turn around and find another route.” – Station Manager Pete Donovan

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the hazards associated with floodwaters on roads. Essex Fire and Rescue Service’s message is clear: avoid flooded routes to protect both life and property. Seeking alternative routes in such conditions is not just a precaution,
